Authorities suspect Brent Garber, who decided to burn the body of his deceased dog, was responsible for the tragedy. Police were almost immediately on Garber's trail, as a local police officer spotted him driving an ATV minutes after the fire started. In addition, the man lives near the scene of the fire. Firefighters found the burned body of a dog and a grave with the words "Rest in peace, buddy" at the site where the fire started. There was a bone tied to the makeshift headstone. According to police reports, Garber failed to control the intensity of the fire while burning the dog. The flames spread to a neighboring tree and went further. The man's dog was known to have been put to sleep on a judge's order after it got into a fight with another dog. The charges Garber faces between 4 and 15 years in prison.
